A Beautiful Start to 2013: Commitment Day 5K

2013 started out fantastic! Thanks to Katie Heddleston, I was given a free race registration to a Commitment Day 5K. Obviously, I signed up for the DC area one. ;-) I was very happy the race didn’t start until 11 on New Years Day, not that I had any big plans. I ended up staying in, watching copious amounts of Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, and having ONE glass of wine.

I LOVE my new Brooks top and crazy running tights I got from Target! ;-)

The race itself was about 30 minutes from where I lived so I planned on getting there around 9:30. I got there a little later than 9:30, but I was quickly able to get my Commitment Day shirt, Commitment Day journal, and Commitment Day bag.

After I got my stuff, I went back and sat in the car before hitting the Port-A-Potty and the start line. PS, I HATE using Port-A-Potties. They gross me out and I would like to make a goal to NEVER use one at a race again, but something tells me I would totally fail at that goal.

I digress. . .

It was so cool to see people of all ages! Babies in strollers, older people, people my age, and lots of families were out all doing the Commitment Day 5K. There was also a tuba player!

And just like that, we were off! I really didn’t have a plan going in. My goal was to have fun and ring in 2013 the right way! I can say I achieved both of those goals! I had a blast and I am so glad I had the chance to do this!

I’m not sure how in the world I managed this picture while running and trying not to drop my unprotected iPhone. ;-)

This was probably my slowest paced race I have ever participated in. 3.18 miles in 45:39. Overall pace of 14:12.

But, I am not going to let that deter me in my 2013 goals. Things can only improve from here. I have to continue to work hard and put forth the effort. I feel something really clicked during the 5K. I can’t put my finger on it, but I do know one thing, 2013 is going to be a GREAT year!

Thanks again to Katie for this chance!! :-)
