Changing the Plan- Doing Things My Way
| September 22, 2012 | Filled under Running, Training Plan |
Happy Saturday! Today will be spent in Arlington and then going into DC to spend time with Katy! I am so excited to finally get to meet up with her again! The last time we were hanging out was at the Space Camp Tweetup. Time flies and I cannot believe it has been that long! Anyway, by the time this post (GASP! I am prewriting this and scheduling it!) I will be on my way to hopefully a lead into a full time job. I want to keep everything kind of quiet about it now, but say a quick prayer for me, please. A lot is so up in the air right now and it is so hard to not get down about things, but that is for another post!
Lately, I have been hearing a lot about choosing a plan, whether it be eating or training, that fits you. As you all know, I came up with a training plan and was determined to stick with it. Surprise, surprise, I am changing things up. As much as I am starting to enjoy (GASP!) running, I am not loving running 4 times a week and only cross training 2 times a week. Honestly, I still prefer to hit up the weight machines and elliptical, but I am starting to really like running.
So, what does this mean? Yep, I am changing the plan. This new plan has no exact mileage yet, but I do know that running days will be Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and cross train days will be Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Doing this also makes me feel that I am really getting my money’s worth by joining my gym. I am really loving it there and want to stay there for as long as I can. The equipment is extremely nice and I just feel comfortable working out there. Eventually, I want to start swimming and do more classes. It also helps that Alexandria Fire Department work out there.
If you catch my drift!
So, how is running going? After the Navy 5-Miler on Sunday, I felt tired and sore, but really good!! Tuesday was a short 2 miles. We had some heavy rain move through the area and I wanted to get it done quick. Thursday was 4 miles! Actually, it was more like 4.5 miles. Details! I took the trail into Old Town and had a blast running down the street and passed everyone! I did hit some red lights, but it was a lot of fun and did not deter me. I really felt like a “runner!” I even got a head nod from someone running in the opposite direction! My pace is still all over the place, but I am going to keep doing 2/1 run/walk method until I am ready to move on. I think I pushed it last time and I was having to take more walk breaks than I should have.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. A lot is going on, but a lot is not going on. There is this big holding pattern I feel like I am in and it is frustrating, but I have to keep doing what I am doing and keep my spirits up.In some more happy news. I am spending time in LA next month!! I am so stinking excited and I am even more excited that it will be with my momma!! Woohoo!! So, have a happy Saturday and a GREAT day!!
