9/11 Memorial 5K Race Recap & Navy 5-Miler

Hey all!! This past weekend, I had the chance to unofficially run the 9/11 Memorial 5K in Crystal City. I say unofficially because I got my dates confused. I thought that the race was on 9/11, but it was actually on Saturday evening. If you also recall, we had those crazy storms come through. Needless to say, my head was not screwed on straight and by the time I made it down to Crystal City, registration was over, but they did say I could still run. Run, I did! How did I fare from my first 5K?

I took, unofficially, 3 minutes and 15 seconds off my last 5K!! Okay, I realize that it took me over a year and a half to do another 5K, but I was pretty excited! The overall atmosphere of the race was one of remembrance and togetherness. It was a very nice race and I cannot wait to officially do it next year! We ran through Crystal City, down by the Pentagon (LOVE!!!), and then back up to the Start/Finish line. Different military and police groups were running and also chatting their songs. Very uplifting and just fun. I did buy a shirt and then the rest of the money I was going to spend on registration I gave as a donation. Not a total loss and I felt good about it all! :-)

Moving onto tomorrow! The Navy 5-Miler is TOMORROW!! I am not going to lie and say that I imagined being much more fit by this time of year, but it is what it is and I plan on going out there and doing my best. So, goals for tomorrow?

A) Finish in under 1 hour, 5 minutes (12:59 pace)

B) Finish in under 1 hour, 10 minutes (14:00 pace)

C) Just Finish

Haha, C goal is really not an option. I WILL be finishing, regardless of time. I do plan on doing a run/walk plan, but I have no clue as to how long each interval will be. It would be nice to do a 3/1, but I guess I will just wait and see. Probably not the best strategy. . .

Alright, off to do some homework and finish watching the Hogs get their butts kicked by Bama. Arkansas, I know it has been a rough 6 months or so, but please, get your stuff together. More tomorrow! :-)
